Morning session: Introduction to Brioche

Brioche is an easy stitch that creates a lush, drapey, warm fabric. In this class we’ll learn the basic principles of working brioche at and in the round, and increasing and decreasing in pattern, and get started on knitting the Hey, Little Songbird pattern. Experience needed: knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing.

Materials and homework: Approximately 70 yards of worsted weight yarn and US 7 needles for swatching and practicing and 800 yards of sportweight/DK yarn and US 10 1⁄2 needles for the stole. We highly recommend Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted for your practice yarn and HiKoo Sueno or Cascade Venezia for the project

Afternoon session: Brioche, The Next Level

After learning basic brioche, knitters are often intimidated by working it in the round or working it in two colors. In this class, we’ll learn how to take your brioche seamless, how to incorporate two colors, and a few more complex decreases that really let your fabric shine. Experience needed: everything you’ve learned in the morning session plus; knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, working in the round.

Materials and homework: Approximately 100 yards of worsted weight yarn, 16” circular needle in an appropriate size for your yarn, 50 yards of a complimentary or contrasting color. We highly recommend Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted for your practice yarn.
